Rebecca "Becky" Donald Tipton Parker

Rebecca Donald Tipton Parker, 58, of Columbus, Miss., died Wednesday, November 20, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland and will be remembered during a memorial at Goodman United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 23 with Reverend Mark Donald and Reverend Sylvia Blackwell officiating.

Visitation will be Friday at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington, Miss. from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.

She was born Rebecca “Becky” Helm Donald on December 8, 1954 to Charles Unger Donald and Virginia Helm Donald of Goodman, Miss. Becky graduated valedictorian of Central Holmes Academy in 1972. She graduated with honors from Mississippi State University and received an outstanding accounting award as a senior.

She then married and lived briefly in Corinth, Miss. and Chicago, Ill. before settling in Columbus, Miss. where she worked as a CPA. Becky served as a member of Columbus First United Methodist Church for nearly 20 years, participating in Circle 6, the Chancel choir, and the Handbell Choir.

In 2007, Becky was preliminarily diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy, an extremely rare brain disorder similar to Parkinson’s disease, which ultimately claimed her life. Following her diagnosis, she spent time in the care of two nursing facilities, The Arrington in Columbus and Lexington Manor in Lexington

Becky was most proud of her two children, Eric Cramer Tipton and Lauren Virginia Tipton Wrather. Friends, family, and caregivers were touched by her kind spirit, warm sense of humor, and loving heart.

Preceded in death by younger brother, Tim Donald, and nephew, Nick Henley, Becky is survived by her parents Charles and Virginia Donald, her son Eric and wife Bethany, her daughter Lauren and husband Kyle, her older brother David Donald and wife Nora, younger brother Danny Donald and wife Joy, and her sister Kelly Patterson and husband Mike.

Honorary pallbearers include Lynn Arnold, Roseanne Weeks, and her prayer pals, Patti Johnson, Diane Lawrence, Judy Waller, Ronda Andrus, Jane Crigler, and Donna Gainer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MSA Coalition or Goodman United Methodist Church.
